Panoptix Lens Review: The PanOptix is a biconvex acrylic lens that uses diffractive optics in its 4.5mm central position to create an intermediate focal point of 60.0cm (+1.65D) and a near point of 40.0cm (+2.35D). The lens filters UV and blue light and contains negative aberrations on its anterior surface to offset the positive aberrations of the cornea.

Alcon’s technology, which focuses 88% of the light on the retina and 3.0mm pupil, is designed to provide a crisp image independent of the pupil size.2 The toric implant can correct up to 2.82D of corneal astigmatism.

Although under review, researchers assessed uncorrected binocular vision for 256 eyes receiving the PanOptix at six-month follow-up and found that 92 percent of patients saw 20/25 or better at distance, 94 percent at 66.0cm and 91 percent at 40.0cm.1 The PanOptix obtained close vision of 20/32+.33 in a limited sample of different lens designs.
